The latest Eurobarometer on the Quality of Life in EU Cities, a survey funded by the European Commission, includes an extraordinary chart on satisfaction with cultural facilities.
Here is the summary data for capital cities.
We think that London (BOP’s home town) seems low, especially given the city’s international reputation for culture.
But double checking the figures against data from our World Cities Culture Forum, we have some way to go to match the leading cities on a per capita basis:
Vienna – 7 Major Concert Halls and 14 National museums for under 2 million people.
London – 10 Major Concert Halls and 13 National museums for 8 million.
We would love to see comparative data on cultural participation rates (also collected as part of the Eurobarometer series). If you review the report, make sure to study the extraordinary chart on page 42, including comparative rankings on nearly 100 European cities.
