Arts sector

A new report out this month shows the UK arts sector is of growing entrepreneurialism and tenacity, stating:

“...we are seeing clear evidence of an ever-shifting revenue mix in the arts, away from statutory sources to a more mixed model of revenue generation.”

The result of a survey conducted by Arts Quarter, it was found that despite more than half of arts organisations in receipt of funding expecting further cuts following the Spending Review, there remains a ‘tacit feeling of optimism in the air’.

Anticipating earned income to rise during the next financial year, many see their fundraising efforts beginning to pay off; becoming more independent and resilient to the precarity of public funding from local authorities.

Though more indicative than providing robust findings on the sector overall, with the big question still standing on whether these ‘green shoots’ will be enough to offset funding cuts at the local authority level, we think it fits well with some of the findings of our own work – including our UK Cities Culture Report, and our evaluation of

With the survey to be run annually, we look forward to tracking any evolution and innovation across the arts and cultural sectors.
