We carried out research into the games sector in Coventry and Warwickshire for the Local Enterprise Partnership and Ukie.

We designed a bespoke methodology to assess levels of employment and GVA, which identified that the cluster around Leamington Spa was much larger and more productive than reported in official statistics. This, combined with comparator studies with other games clusters in North America and Europe, helped establish ways in which the Leamington cluster, already a source of ‘smart specialisation’ and competitive advantage for the West Midlands region, could become even stronger through improved access to finance, skills and specialist business support.

The resulting ‘blueprint for growth’ is being fed into plans for the LEP and the new West Midlands Combined Authority.
